How will China achieve its energy efficiency goals?

On Nov 25 China announced that it would commit to reducing carbon output by 40-45% per GDP by 2020. A few of days later, the vice governor of Guangdong announced that Guangdong, China's economic powerhouse, would commit to creating a "green" Guangdong, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and increasing energy efficiency. Does this mean that the days of cheap and dirty power in the supply chain are coming to an end? How will China's become 40% more energy efficient in just a decade? Will manufacturers be subject to a carbon tax?

In Europe, many countries have been successful in making significant reductions in their greenhouse gas emissions by instituting a carbon tax. Read more.


BSCI Training Completed in Shenzhen

China Center- The China Center for Labor and Environment completed a two-day training on the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) here in Shenzhen. The training was held for a large buying agent of four leading European retailers and consisted of 35 representatives from their suppliers and partners. The training covered the social and environmental concepts that are necessary for factories to comply with the BSCI system. Included in the training was an orientation to CSR. Read more.

CSR Reporting Workshop Held in Beijing

Dec 2- The second CSR Reporting International Seminar was held in Beijing by the China WTO Tribune and partners. During this conference, the WTO Tribune discussed CSR issues in China, the state of CSR reporting and held awards for their Golden Bee CSR awards, recognizing enterprises with an outstanding commitment to social responsibility.

The event was attended by over 160 guests, reporters and companies, including the China Center for Labor and Environment. Read more.
