An environmental impact assessment is a thorough analysis of the potential impact of development on the environment, and is required for most construction projects. Guidelines on design of construction projects require environmental considerations be integrated into each of the design phases. The rules cover construction site selection, timing for conducting environmental impact assessments, and budgeting for environmental protection facilities.

Construction Projects

During the construction process, construction entities and other involved units are responsible for following measures set out in their environmental impact assessment documents, including designing, building and putting environmental protection facilities into use in-step with the main project, a policy known as “triple synchronization”. In addition, construction entities have obligations to involve government departments for review at key milestones such as trial operation and completion of construction.
