Meet our Team
The China Center for Labor and Environment (CCLE) consists of experienced CSR and compliance experts to help companies address issues such as compliance, factory improvement and climate change. We also work closely with a team of legal experts, environmentalists, compliance specialists and former regulators to help brands and suppliers integrate CSR within business operations. Some of our specialists have directly participated in the drafting of China’s labor law. In addition to conducting research and writing government policy, the team advises the China Center on updates related to labor and environmental law. Xing Xinmin

Lead Specialist, China Labor Law

For over 10 years, Xing Xinmin held the position of Director of the Regulation section of the P. R. China Ministry of Labor and Social Security's Labor Policy and Regulation Department. He is one of the major drafters of the People's Republic of China Labor Law and has been involved in the drafting, formulation and amendment of numerous labor protection policies, laws and regulations. Not only familiar with the labor policies and regulations from the theoretical standpoint, Mr. Xing has rich practical experience as a practicing attorney through handling the difficulties of complicated labor relationships in over one hundred labor dispute cases. Xinmin has been invited as guest speaker to discuss issues concerning the Labor Law by the Central People's Radio Station and the China Central Television Vision network. He has been a special commentator for numerous newspapers and magazines and has been invited to speak at meetings of international organizations and businesses in the U.S. and Hong Kong. Mr. Xing currently serves as legal counsel for many multinational companies and corporate groups. The chief editor of Labor Law: Essential Facts, Provisions of Labor and Social Security Policies, Laws and Regulations, Mr. Xing has also authored a wide number of legal publications, including Answers to Legal Questions Involving Labor and Employment, A New Analysis of Collected Employment Contracts, Interpretation of Labor Disputes and Labor Security Administrative Disputes, Regulations for Employment by Enterprises, and many more.
Xing Xinmin

Yang Zhe

Specialist, China Labor Law

Yang Zhe is a graduate of the law school of China University of Politics and Law, and has served in the Regulation and Legal Supervision sections of the P.R. China Ministry of Labor and Social Security's Labor Policy and Regulation Department. She had direct involvement in the drafting of the People's Republic of China Labor Law and specializes in labor protection administrative disputes. Ms. Yang participated in the writing of a number of professional publications, including China Labor: Essential Facts, Basic Knowledge of the Labor Law, and the Labor Dispute Mediator's Must Read. She has contributed numerous articles to the Rules and Regulation Column of the Central People's Radio Station and the Labor Law Consulting Hotline Column of the China Labor Security Newspaper. Yang Zhe is wide recognized for her knowledge of labor protection policies, laws and regulations and rich practical experience in the handling labor disputes. She has years of direct experience in resolution of issues concerning labor policies, laws, and regulations raised by both Chinese and foreign enterprises as well as laborers. Ms. Yang has assisted many companies to amend employment contracts and employee handbooks, provided legal advice and acted as attorney in labor dispute cases.

Dang Xiaojie

Specialist, China Labor Law

Dang Xiaojie is Vice President of the China Labor Law Studies Association and Deputy Director General of the Legal Affairs Department of the P.R. China Ministry of Labor & Social Security. Mr. Dang graduated from Renmin University School of Economics. He later served several years in the Labor Science Studies Institute of Ministry of Labor where he made significant contributions to the improvement and reformation of enterprise labor administration and policy. Since beginning his assignment as Deputy Director General in 1992, Dang Xiaojie has been responsible for the drafting the legislation concerning the supervision and execution of labor and social security policy; as such, he is recognized as an authority on labor in China for his theoretical and practical expertise.

Chen Lan

Specialist, China Labor Law

Standing Director of the China Labor Law Studies Association and Director of the Legal Affairs Supervision  Department of the P.R. China Ministry of Labor & Social Security, Chen Lan graduated from Peking University School of Law in 1986, and has since been dedicated to her work in labor disputes, legislation, administration, and social security supervision. Ms. Lan participated in the drafting of Regulations on Handling Labor Disputes, Provisional Rules on the Imposition of Social Security Fees, Administrative Regulations on Social Securities, and many other labor and social security related regulations. Lan is a recognized specialist in China's labor and social security laws and regulations and has extensive experience in related practice.

Mr. Zheng Dongliang

Specialist, China Labor Law

Zheng Dongliang is president of China Labor Law Studies Association and vice-director of the Ministry of Labor's China Academy of Labor and Social Security. A graduate of Xiamen University's Department of Economy, Mr. Zheng previously served as editor for Labor Science Magazine. Mr. Zheng has for years participated in research in the areas of the labor market, employment, labor relations, and management of human resources in enterprises, involved in more than 20 research areas and projects. Some of the more prominent publications he has contributed to include The Cultivation and Development of the Labor Market, Labor Relations of State-owned Enterprises and their Adjustment Issues, and How to Deal With the Labor Relations of Laid-off Workers from State-owned Enterprises. Since 1997, he has taken part in the analysis of needs for labor management software systems including Labor and Personnel Management System, Labor Contract Management Information System, Labor Inspection Information Management System, and Labor Dispute Handling Information Management. Mr. Zheng has published nearly 50 articles in multiple newspapers and periodicals of which five have been garnered awards of excellence. These and other research contributions have directly guided labor system reform and human resources management in, and have promoted harmonious labor relations and sustainable development.
Mr. Zheng Dongliang

Wang Wenzhen

Specialist, China Labor Law

Wang Wenzhen holds positions as the Director of the Labor and Social Security Law Research Office of the Labor Science Research Institute, General Secretary of the China Labor Law Research Society, and attorney of the Beijing Jinyang Law Firm. He holds law degrees from Peking University and Zhongshan University, and in 1993 was visiting scholar to the Japan Institute of Labor.

Mr. Wang has conducted and participated in extensive research in the areas of labor contracts, working hours, employment promotion, employment protection for the disabled, labor inspection system, enterprise-worker relations, and theory and policy concerning labor law, social insurance law, employment practice in foreign-funded enterprises, and labor environment in China. Wang Wenzhen participated in the drafting of the People's Republic of China Labor Law as well as many other laws and regulations, he published Approaching Labor Disputes (Economic Science Publishing House, 1998), as wells as dozens of articles in various magazines and newspapers. Mr. Wang was editor of Lectures in the Labor Law, Practical Guide to the Labor Market in China, Management of Labor Contracts, Simplified Reading of the Labor Law, and other books. He has also provided years of legal service to many enterprises and has been involved in the settlement of several labor disputes of significant social impact in China.
Wang Wenzhen

Albert Yeung

Lead Specialist, Capacity Building

Albert Yeung is one of the first to join the CSR industry, becoming a third-party social compliance auditor as early as 1998. In addition to having performed hundreds of audits for factories in different industries in China and other Asian countries, he was also responsible for oversight of audit operations in China, Hong Kong and Macau. He helped many companies develop and enhance their audit programs. He also established and conducted auditor trainings for the corporate sector as well as training internal audit teams in different countries.

In 2001, Albert joined a large US apparel company in which he served for 6 years, last holding the position of Regional Compliance Manager. He was responsible for establishing an internal compliance team with auditors and specialists in Hong Kong and different cities in China. He organized different trainings and summits for vendors and suppliers, and assisted in the development and implementation of successful supplier capacity building projects. In this position, he also worked closely with other corporations in joint brand collaboration projects to drive further CSR development.

In view of the increasing importance and necessity of building capacity for local suppliers, Albert joined the China Center in 2008. He currently leads different continuous improvement / capacity building projects and training activities for suppliers in China. He continues to actively study business and operations practices, identifying challenges and assessing needs of both brands and suppliers, with whom he works to develop and provide sustainable solutions in economic, social and environmental areas.

Albert holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. He has been certified through various management systems training courses including ISO9000, ISO14000, SA8000, HACCP, and others.

David Abrahamson

Project Manager

David brings to the China Center for Labor and Environment over eight years of multi-sector experience in China. Fluent in mandarin, David works closely with the China Center team in developing initiatives that build capacity, facilitate compliance and promote ethical sourcing. David previously worked as Guangdong Manager for Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation where he established their office in Guangdong and managed work ranging from scholarships for disadvantaged students to microcredit projects. Prior to that David worked as Communications Associate for The Nature Conservancy China Program, garnering support for environmental work in northwest Yunnan. David has also worked with Business for Social Responsibility, Habitat for Humanity International, WWF and other NGOs. David holds a BA in Psychology from The Colorado College.
David Abrahamson

Ripple Zheng

Specialist, Capacity Building

Ripple Zheng is the lead trainer for the China Center for Labor and Environment with years of experience building the capacity of brands and suppliers. An experienced auditor and consultant, Ripple is SAI certified for SA 8000 lead auditor and is a specialist in Lean Manufacturing and industrial engineering. Drawing from experience performing onsite training sessions and nearly 1,000 audits for a wide range of manufacturing facilities Ripple designs participatory courses that are both thorough and accessible. Mr. Zheng is well-versed in China's labor protection, health and safety, environmental protection policies, laws and regulations, and is an experienced writer on areas such as Corporate Management Systems for Health and Safety, Provisions of Labor and Social Security Policies, and other subjects.

Dr. Kris Law

Research Partner

Dr. Kris Law has obtained her bachelor degree in engineering, MPhil degree in engineering technology and her PhD in organizational learning and development. Dr. Law was a visiting fellow at the Graduate Institute of Industrial Engineering of National Taiwan University in 2008. Prior to her postgraduate study, she had worked in the testing industry for some years. Her research interests are in the areas of organizational learning and development, innovation and knowledge strategies, sustainable development in high-tech industries and engineering education. She has a wealth of hands-on project experiences which are gained through the consultancy and training projects throughout the region. Dr. Law is now on staff at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
